Research Guide Aims and Goals

Researchers at Gottesman Libraries have access to a robust collection of online resources. Navigating the features as well as the gaps in accessibility of these resources can be a challenge. This research guide will explain how and why assistive technologies function differently between our many databases and includes information about digital rights management, EPUB and PDF file formats, and available resources within the Gottesman Libraries and Teachers College.

Useful Terms

Adaptive technology is hardware or software specifically designed to improve accessibility for people with disabilities and is a subcategory of assistive technology which includes all tools or systems that eases access or improves the experience for any user.

Digital rights management is often referred to as DRM. This is an umbrella term we use for the various tools publishers use to control what users can do with their digital materials and protect them from copyright infringement.
